Adrienne Gail writes Americana folk songs that speak truth to power and invite in a more peaceful and optimistic future. Her original songs are lyric-forward and acoustic-driven, with an emphasis on storytelling and emotional nuance. She’s often compared to artists like Joan Baez and Judy Collins with a touch of Janis Joplin. She performs both original and cover songs either solo or with the Sages, Howard Finkel and Alan Graf. She recently performed with the Sages at the “No Kings” rally in Asheville, “Songs of Truth and Hope for the Future” in Black Mountain, and in front of Delaney Hall in Newark.
Adrienne Gail has also started to coordinate pop-up peace choirs with other protesters at detention centers across the United States. She successfully started up the Delaney Hall Pop-up Peace Choir under dangerous conditions, and would like to expand the project to other detention centers.
“In a moment of pure determination, as the song crescendoed into the lyrics 'I’ll sing from here and you sing from there…' Adrienne’s voice grew louder and more defiant. The resolve in her voice ever present as she stood right up against the fence singing directly to those held hostage inside Delaney before turning her attention to the masked, military-kit-donning ICE agents who had just sprayed her choir. In that moment, I had never been more proud to be doing what I am doing as I watched and documented as peaceful voices rose up in anger and solidarity to make a clear statement, 'What ICE is doing is unacceptable, and we will not allow our country to fall into fascism'...I have met so many inspirational people at Delaney Hall. Adrienne called those making their voices heard heroes, seemingly unaware that she too was more than deserving of that title.”

A Conversation with Adrienne Gail
“Gail says most of the songs she and the Sages sing 'have love and compassion at their foundation.' She’s also hoping to coordinate a pop-up choir with local protesters at Delaney Hall who want a peaceful option for protesting. 'I recognize that there’s a spark of the divine in everybody, but sometimes that spark can be clouded by the greed and corruption that I think has spread throughout some of our institutions, unfortunately,' Gail said. 'So my hope is that this music can kind of wake people up and help them realize that we are all worthy of love and respect and compassion.'"

Opinion: Asheville is a protest town, and some of the protesters’ stories are extraordinary
“Adrienne Gail and her Sages played recently at the No Kings rally in Pack Square. There she captivated thousands of protestors with her powerful songs about freedom, anti-fascist hymns, and her personal quest to use the power of love to bring us together. When she sung to those thousands you could hear a pin drop till she ended her tune to thunderous applause.”
